Maid’s trolley also called as a room attendants trolley, or chamber maid’s trolley, this is perhaps the most significance piece equipment in the housekeeping department. It is like a giant tool box, stocked with everything necessary to service a guest room effectively. Most such carts available now are made of metal, but sometimes wooden carts may be in use.
The cart
should be spacious enough to carry all the supplies needed for a GRA to complete
half a day’s room assignments. Since the cart is large and may be heavily
loaded, it must be easily movable as well. The ideal cart would have fixed
wheels at one end and castor –wheels at the other. The cart should be well
organized so that the GRA’s do not have to waste time in searching for supplies
or make frequent trips back to the supply room. Also, if the cart is not
stacked neatly, it will look very unsightly.
They
eliminate the time wasted in assembling equipment at the work location or
moving them from one place to another.
Care
& Maintenance
• All carts and trolleys need to be
kept clean, wiped daily and stored locked.
• A thorough cleaning may be done once
a week.
• The wheels may be oiled during this
cleaning for the smooth movement of the trolley.
• Clean trolley by wiping it down
inside and out to ensure that it is free of dust and dirt. (No names or
stickers are allowed to be writing or glued on to the trolley)
• At the start of the shift, check that
the trolley is in good working condition.
• Report to your supervisor any
breakage.
• Check that the frame and bumpers are
in good condition.
• Check that wheels are rotating
correctly.
• Check soiled linen bag for
cleanliness. (If it is soiled or damaged changed the bag.)
• All items should be taken from the
appropriate place, i.e. housekeeping store with requisitions be completed based
on actual usage and occupancy.
• Arrange Linen on trolley.
• Place heaviest linen items on the
bottom trolley shelf, such as duvet covers and sheets.
• Ensure you calculate sufficient king
and double size bed linen of each type.
• Place bathroom linen on the following
shelf.
• Group bath towels, bath rugs,
bathmats neatly.
• Place the small items on the highest
shelf, such as pillowcases, hand towels, face towels.
• Ensure linen is lying flat to avoid
unnecessary creasing.
• For turndown service you would place
more towels than sheets.
• Do not fill the soiled linen bag
higher than the top of the bag. A pile raised up to the ceiling looks untidy
and unprofessional. As soon as the soiled linen gets to the top of the linen
bag empty it into the linen chute or service area.
• When stocking your trolley, do not
overstock your trolley – it will only bring extra weight to the trolley making
trolley movements heavier.
• Always remember that you are in a
Guest Area and your trolley needs to be neat and tidy all the time.
Preparing
Cleaning supplies and caddy for the day.
• Inside the caddie put bottles of
cleaning solutions.
• Put a sponge along with a toilet
brush and sponge for other cleaning purposes in the bucket.
• Toilet cleaner, multi- purpose
cleaner, glass cleaner, air freshener, labeled clearly.
